The most important part of composing a tweet is the content.  The tweet must have valuable and shareable content to get noticed.  Tweets should be from three different categories: your own content, other’s content, and personal content.

Your own content can be links to articles you have written, information about your business, or promotional offers.  However, no one wants to only see information promoting a company, so you should include other content.

Content for other sources is a great way to connect with other people within your industry.  You can share articles that are relevant to your industry, news, or current events.  You should also retweet other people’s tweets that you find relevant to your business.  Lastly, include some personal content.  Mention holidays or other events that are coming up.  You can also tweet personal information that your followers can connect with, but avoid anything too personal or too controversial.

You can also tweet pictures.  Visual content always catches a viewer’s eye more than written content.  Just remember that sometimes only the link to the picture will show up on screen, so you should always include some written content as well.
You can also include links to articles, websites, blogs, or images.  You should use a short link in a tweet because it is limited to 140 characters including links.  If you are using Twitter to create traffic for your website or blog it is important to include a link to the site.

Lastly, hashtags are very important on Twitter.  Hashtags help people search for a particular topic and links those tweets together.  You can also create your own hashtag to create a community of followers or start a conversation.  Remember to keep it short.  You want to allow people to tweet a message and the hashtag within the character limit.  You should also use popular hashtags or hashtags created by others.  This allows you to connect with people outside of your current following.
